I’m an Edmonton-based artist working across large-scale chalk murals, portraiture, typography, and mixed media. My work is bold, emotionally driven, and rooted in human experience—identity, connection, and the patterns that link us to each other and the world around us.
I’m drawn to creating art live and in public spaces, where instinct, energy, and presence shape the outcome.
My name is Glen Sergy and my artistic style is strangely similar to my origin story. Start by making a mess. Make some decisions. Right or wrong doesn't matter, just get things moving. Then stand back and try to figure out how to fix it.
I studied graphic design at Grant MacEwan, then went on to a BA at the UofA. Then I did what most artists do after graduation, I found employment in careers that are completely unrelated to art (warehousing and construction in my case). During that time I would spend my evenings experimenting with different mediums and expressions; painting, photography, graphic design, sculpture, wood mosaic. It wasn't until 2019 when I finally found a way to combine my talents and ambitions into one career. I am now the local mentor for Paint Nite in the Edmonton area and Red Deer. Organization and event planning, teaching, dad-jokes, and buckets of paint!
I still like to come up with my own projects, and although I jump between mediums the process is similar. I like to start with an idea of what I want to do. Then abandon it. Dribble, drip, and smear paint all over. Then go back and find the original idea and try to make it happen without loosing all of the fun along the way. The result is something that is somehow precise but also messy and expressive.
I've never been moved by the people in the history books. I tend to find inspiration at the local art walks with artists like Giselle Denis, Lucy Cook and Jason Blower.
I’m Jonathan Gutierrez, a Flipino-Canadian self taught artist. My focus involves painting & Drawing ,abstract painting, mixed media, traditional and digital artwork. I was part of international Art Gallery in USA, Japan, Europe and Canada.
