Vince Locke has been creating illustrative art for over 30 years, including comics like Deadworld and A History of Violence, album art for Cannibal Corpse, and illustrations for role-playing games and magazines. Known for his horror-themed fine art, he won the Haxtur Award in 2005 and spoke at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

This is my first Art Battle. I normally draw comic books and album covers, so I’m used to needing to work fast, but 20 minutes will be a challenge. It’s not enough time to make a “perfect” painting, but plenty of time to do something interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

Emilio focuses on oil paint for finished works but prefers rapid, energetic creation on paper. He works from his own photography or life, incorporating diverse elements to introduce complexity and mistakes. Using ink and oil paint predominantly—ink for speed and impact, oil for its slow development—Emilio also experiments with gouache, charcoal, graphite, watercolor, acrylic, and ink markers.

I hope to showcase efficiency and energy to create some dynamic images right before your eyes and share the passion I have for the craft of image making and the spirit of competition. See you there!

Drakkari, from Grand Rapids, has been creating art for as long as he can remember. He focuses on colorful, bold paintings with thick lines, often using red. His goal is to make the art he wants to see, embracing randomness and creativity. He enjoys including animals and patterns in his work and works in drawing, painting, and tattooing.

I’m excited to bring my vision and abilities to this event. I plan to have fun and try to make something unique and interesting in my allotted time.

Jennifer creates expressive and moving art, often focusing on animals and horses. In addition to being an artist, she is a horse trainer and performer. She has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember.
