Jayda Murray is a self-taught Canadian artist whose work blends abstract and figurative styles to explore identity, memory, and resilience—especially within Black communities. Drawing inspiration from artists like Kehinde Wiley and Van Gogh, Jayda uses acrylic and charcoal to tell powerful, personal stories. Her art is a form of storytelling—honouring strength, reflecting struggle, and amplifying overlooked voices. Whether painting in the studio or live on stage, Jayda creates to connect and make people feel seen.

From the artist:

Hi everyone! I’m Jayda Murray, a self-taught Canadian artist. My work lives at the intersection of the personal and the political. I blend abstract and figurative styles to explore themes like identity, memory, resilience, and representation—especially within Black communities whose stories deserve to be seen and celebrated.

For me, art is storytelling. I paint to honour strength, reflect struggle, and amplify voices that are often overlooked. I’m inspired by artists like Kehinde Wiley, Camila Salinas, and Van Gogh—creators who pour emotion and meaning into every brushstroke.

I mainly work with acrylic and charcoal, but I also love exploring photography, video, and graphic design—anything that helps me tell stories in new ways. Sharing my process online has connected me with people from around the world and led to incredible opportunities—like when Spencer Barbosa reached out, wanting a portrait. That kind of support keeps me going.

Whether I’m creating in my studio or painting live in front of you tonight, my goal is the same: to make art that resonates, that reflects who I am, and that connects with others on a deeper level.

Thank you so much for being here and for supporting live art—let’s make this a night to remember!
